General Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a primary health profession, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders and the effects of these conditions on your general health. It’s a hands-on manual therapy that is suitable for people of all ages and body types and works with the body’s natural ability for healing to promote health and reduce discomforts and pain.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a minimally invasive medical practice. It stimulates and adjusts energy flow in the body. Sterile, single-use and ultra-fine needles are inserted into the body at strategic points, stimulating sensory nerves. This can help to relieve pain, improve range of motion, and prevent future injuries. Osteopathic treatment in combination with acupuncture can decrease your pains and promote the body’s natural self-healing process.

Visceral Manipulation

Visceral manipulation can be used to treat abdominal pain, constipation, cramps, indigestion, heartburn, bladder issues, asthma and much more. It is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy used to help ensure your internal organs have adequate mobility and space to perform its functions.

Chronic Pain Management

Chronic pain can be complicated and challenging to treat, but with with the right approach you can get relief and improve your quality of life. In our experience, chronic pain is much more manageable once you know what’s going on in your body and you have an management plan in place. Come in for an assessment with Martin and we’ll work together to find the right options for your situation.

Additionally, we support postpartum healing, and for babies, cranial osteopathy can assist with concerns such as latching issues, colic, and head shape. Osteopathy is a manual form of healthcare that aims to restore function throughout the body. It’s whole-body alignment to release any restrictions or tensions so that the body can return to a balanced functional state.

Osteopaths do a hands-on assessment of your body looking for balance and alignment. Sometimes there may be extra testing, like reflexes or blood pressure to check it is safe for us to treat you. We can treat a range of conditions using hands-on techniques, exercise prescription, and ergonomic advice.

Our non-invasive treatment aims to target the root cause of your pain. We can help if you are struggling with back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, shoulder pain, repetitive strain injury (RSI), headaches and migraines, sciatica, arthritis, postural pain, and so much more. We can also support you during your pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey.

No. You don’t need a referral from your GP to see osteopaths. Our osteopaths are all qualified primary healthcare practitioners and registered with the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand.

Yes. Our osteopaths are ACC registered. If you have an injury that is the result of an accident, you are entitled to subsidised osteopathic treatment. For more information about ACC, what types of injuries they cover and how to access compensation, visit www.acc.co.nz

During your first visit, your osteopath will look at your complete medical history and ask questions about your lifestyle, diet, your perspective on things and your emotional wellbeing. In a safe space, you can tell us about your symptoms, share details of any past accidents or injuries, even if they seem unrelated to your current situation or concerns.

We’ll also ask you to perform some simple movements so we can observe how you are using your body, identify any obvious mobility issues, and evaluate your posture. All this helps us to figure out the best way to approach and proceed with your care.

Please note – children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when in the treatment room.

If you have any specific concerns or discomforts, you are welcome as soon as you’re ready to leave the house (earliest Nina has seen in clinic is 2 days old). For a general postpartum review for Mum or Baby, meeting around 3-6 weeks is ideal.

We will always work within your comfort levels so that we can help you without irritating anything. Osteopathic treatment can be firm, or can be very gentle – we aim to tailor the approach to suit your body on the day.

Acupuncture treatment is also a relatively pain-free experience. The needles are thin, and the insertion usually causes little discomfort. Most people don’t feel it at all.

Clicking, or joint manipulation, is just one of the treatments in our toolkit and we will only use it if you are comfortable with it.

Yes, we can. We may recommend further tests such as an X-ray or ultrasound to help with diagnosis. We can also refer you on to the appropriate medical specialist if needed.
